STAINED GLASS ARTIST ~~/~~ I've been artistically inclined since I was just a little kid. The first piece of my artwork to garner attention was a picture of an Indian village, complete with teepees, mountains, people, and a fire complete with smoke signals. I drew it at age five in Mrs. Kirschenbaum's class, with those fat Crayola crayons that we all learned to draw with :). She told me that when I grew up I would be an artist, and I'm sure she would be happy to know that she was right. I remember that she mentioned my great attention to detail and that holds true even today.
Over the years, my artistic interests varied. I did anything from oils and water colors to faux finishes and murals. I designed and stitched elaborate needlework samplers. I did a variety of mosaics. I made stained glass windows. Finally, I began to make stained glass wind chimes to use up the leftover pieces of glass that threatened to overflow the storage boxes. Ah, the first one I made was just like a little bit of heaven. My favorite things ... gorgeous colors, beautiful glass, and soothing sounds. I was definitely hooked!
Up until a few years ago, my profession was in technology, as a technology analyst. It was interesting, challenging work, and the pay wasn't bad, either! But many years of dealing with chronic health issues forced an early retirement and now I'm on SSD. I supplement this with the sales of my wind chimes, both on eBay, and with commissioned pieces. I have discovered that there is something about earning money by creating a beautiful object, and constructing it with my own hands that brings me more satisfaction than any of the paychecks I earned in the past. Experimenting with colors, shapes, textures and sizes of stained glass to create vibrant wind chimes with melodic tones is both a challenge and a joy to me.
